Tax relief for Hurricane Ian victims in Florida, Alaska storm and flood victims

In response to the recent damage caused by Hurricane Ian, as well as victims of storms and flooding in parts of Alaska, we are reaching out to say we hope you, your family, and your business are all okay. Our thoughts and prayers are with all who were affected by this devastating weather events. In case you have not heard, the IRS has postponed certain deadlines falling on or after September 23, 2022, through February 15, 2023, for affected residents and business owners located in the designated disaster areas. Individuals who had a valid extension to file their 2021 return by October 17 will now have until February 15, 2023, to file.


The current list of eligible localities is available on the disaster relief page on IRS.gov.


In response to disruptions resulting from Hurricane Ian, the IRS will not impose a penalty when dyed diesel fuel with a sulfur content that does not exceed 15 parts-per-million is sold for use or used by emergency vehicles on the highway in the state of Florida. This relief begins on Sept. 28 and will remain in effect through Oct. 19.
